#4 The Light That Shines Through

This is the one track i’ve written so far that I think is starting to sound a bit more like ‘me’. I’m not saying you can’t compare it to anyone else because you probably can, but it’s a sound that’s more focused and more awesome. Well I like it anyway…

The Song That Never Was - Imogen Heap Remix

This is a track I remixed from some vocal stems Imogen Heap made available for a sort of contest. It’s (currently) one of her favourites out of nearly 600 submissions which I think is pretty nifty.

#2

This track I really like, it was created coming out of me experimenting with recording audio into ableton.

it sort of starts out dub, moves into jazz/funk then crescendos into something that’s funky and dance-y and features a guitar lead line that I’m really happy with.

The guitar was my 08 USA strat through my custom matamp, recorded with an sm58. There are 3 parts a doubled up riff, a funky chord part, and some nice picked chords.

#1

I thought it would be cool to delve a little into how I’ve created some of the songs I’ve been writing. So far these tunes are numbered in they order they have been written, but I’m only going to bother writing about them when they’re in a state where I’m moderatley happy with the arrangement and mix etc.

The main theme from #1 came from a microkorg jam I had with Dan. We plugged the two korgs into separate amps and I set up my laptop to record from the built in mic - quality definitely wasn’t the goal there, we were just trying to capture ideas.

after a fair bit of fiddling and tweaking, I wrote some bass and drum parts. essentially the one keyboard part keeps on playing from start to end of the track with other instruments being added pushing it in different harmonic and melodic directions.

this definitely needs more work/structure, but i figured it’d be nice to track the progress and see where it ends up!
